The Bulgarian Defence Institute is set to become an International Innovation Hub for all aspects of UxV & Autonomous operational development, testing ,and evaluation under the NATO DIANA Project (Defence Innovation Accelerator for North Atlantic).

The Central Artillery-Technical Test Range “ZMEJOVO”, Zmeyovo, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria This 40 Km square area has already seen major investment by BG MOD and apart from the unique and varied terrain of Testing & Evaluation Areas, newly refurbished training and administration buildings and a 600m runway are already operational. Apart from the size of aircraft that can be flown, several private companies have already benefited from the unique ability to clear airspace up to 7,000m in less than 7 days.

In time, there will be the possibility for night-flights as well as live firing of ordnance on The Polygon as well as other large payload flights for multiple applications. The Central Artillery-Technical Test Range (CATTR) maintains and develops capabilities for fulfilling tasks related to accurate measurements, analysis, assessment, tests conducted at the range and laboratory tests of armaments and munitions, issues conclusions, recommendations and certificates of quality and of the tested item’s technical state. It’s established on 4 August 1970 and is located 15 км km north, north/west from Stara Zagora. Because the unit is a part of MoD there is a restricted entry into the facility. In order to provide an entrance during the planned period, there are required individual data necessary to be filled in the request to MoD.
